<< Team is moving to get rid of all such handout material too. This is great! Do you know the impact this first step will have. People are making a stand. I want to leap for joy. Progress is good. I am sure we hold this all in the palm of our hands. Why are we so hesitant >> not to be trying to make sue sad on purpose, but "we" are hesitant because, at least in this country, the AAP probably trumps lamaze any day. and if you read the information posted just the other day, discussing the new sponsorship of web sites by nestle on behalf of the aap, you will notice that this partnership extends to individuals web sites for doctors and the information went on to say that "sponsored sites (sponsored by nestle) are provided to doctors free of charge, but doctors have the option of choosing to have a Web site without sponsorships, in exchange for a $30 monthly subscription fee. So far, 3,000 academy members have signed up for Medem's service, but just 1% have requested nonsponsored Web sites. Medem has roughly 20,000 members overall." see? all it takes is $30 a month for physicians to sell out. this is great news about lamaze, but i am not convinced things are improving everywhere every minute. after all, here is another quote from this article about the new business relationship - "Dr. Fotsch applauded Nestle for being 'willing to write a check to help pediatricians communicate with their patients.' He said consumers are sophisticated enough to distinguish between a sponsorship and an actual endorsement, and that it is appropriate to have Nestle as a sponsor, given that not all women are able to breast-feed. Other sponsorships are in the works." so just wait till all those childbirth instructors find out they can save $30 a month by cuddling up to nestle, and see if the "new deal" lasts (and i hope it does). carol brussel IBCLC *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
