Barbara:

in defence of medela policy... when a lactation consultant is selling a
product ( any product) a the suggested retail price and a "big business"
decides to use this product as a "lost leader" ( a price that is sold under
cost to lure customers in so they will buy other pridcuts { standard
marketing practice}. The customer sees that the store is selling at X and
lactation consultant is selling at 2x the consultant looks like a thief/ I
can not make money selling the pump below what it costs me expecially when I
then spend 1.2 hr or more explaining how to use etc/ I give mom a handout
that I produce, answer questions concerns etc etc...

So, I am pleased that medela was pressured by us in the field to hold to
certian price quidelines.

Realize that in this mix the pump companies have killed much of the rental
market ( where lc's made the $ to make ends meet) with the "personal pumps.

Alright, the air is thining and I think I should climb down quickly!

     Patricia
