I have a similar metaphor, which is that learning to breastfeed can be like learning how to walk. Your child will try, and try, and try again to take that first step. He'll fall any number of times in the process. Once he takes that first step, no one cares or remembers how many times he fell, only that he finally took that first step! Also, no one expects him never to fall again. Instead what they expect is that each day he'll fall less than he did the day before. We expect persistence from our kids in learning how to walk. We need that same persistence and positive attitude in teaching them how to breastfeed........
