<Oxytocin, both during pregnancy and lactation causes relaxation of the stomach, and closes off the pyloric sphincter so that the gut becomes more efficient and absorbs more of the available food. It is also associated with CCK and I think some other gut hormones which tend to cause nausea. So this possibly explains morning sickness as well.> Very thought provoking reply to Gonneke's post, Joy. Made me wonder if position might also come into consideration due to some degree of hiatal hernia/relaxation of the cardiac sphincter/reflux. This might be a factor if she were lying down during the feeding, especially if she had taken the suggestion to eat something before nursing. Suggestions for conservative management of HH (smaller, more frequent feedings, but don't lie down within 3 hours after eating, even then, keep shoulders elevated, avoid caffeine (and nicotine), troublesome spices, etc.) can't harm a thing, and might help.
