Regarding the baby who was slow to latch, I would also encourage alot of closeness between mom and baby. Recently I had a mom call me because her baby was not nursing at breast since birth, but she had been pumping, now baby was at a growth spurt and she needed help to increase her supply. I gave her all of the usual advice and threw in that maybe she could put the baby to breast and maybe the stimulation of his mouth on her breast would help too. Two weeks later she called me and told me that she had tried offering the baby the breast as recommended, and the baby latched on and had been nursing ever since. So it's never too late for the baby to realize that "Breast truly is Best"!!
