My coworker tells me that another baby, day 3, bili level of 15 was kept in hosp nursery on phototherapy lites [not sure if one or two] and the mother was discharged home. Mom can come in to bf but must top off with formula becoz supposedly pedi told mom and nurses that formula binds better to bili. [hearsay I know]. I don't know the whole case on this one, but Coombs negative. Baby is over 9 pounds. Surely mom and baby can be together and monitored or if phototherapy really needed, done at home. AAAARRRGGGHHHH! I really must leave the hosp practice setting, it is really getting to me. Laurie Wheeler, RN, MN, IBCLC Violet Louisiana, s.e.
