Can you all tell I am finally caught up on my lactnet reading? Delete unread posts? Surely you jest! Well, I would like to revisit this prenatal colostrum expression thread. I agree it makes sense for at risk mothers and babies. However, I also agree that hosp birthing in my area of the world is an at risk event nowadays. I had a mom with inverted nipples and we talked about things she could do prenatally. This would be an option for her! I would recommend she start at 37 or even 38 wks, as I see some 37 wkers who act like premies. What I want to know is this: Is there any harm in doing this? [first, do no harm] Is the prenatal colostrum the same as the postbirth colostrum, as far as lactose content etc? It would seem so, but maybe not? Laurie Wheeler, RN, MN, IBCLC Violet Louisiana, s.e.
