Has the doctor who recommends weaning asked the mother to take a pregnancy
test? Even without a period yet, she could of course become pregnant in the
ovulatory phase of her first cycle. A few days of spotting can occur upon
the implantation of the egg to the uterine wall and back aches can be as
result of being pregnant (or from having a nine month old *and* being
pregnant*!). I had an increase in sciatic pain so early in my second
pregnancy, it was not funny - I don't think I was three weeks post conception
when my back hurt like crazy.
So far, I have "diagnosed" pregnancy in two of my friends :-) Both thought
they wanted to wean since they hadn't had a period yet, but in fact they
hadn't had a period because they were already pregnant again!
