I am writing to find out if anyone knows of a correlation between
breastfeeding and increased Alkaline Phosphatase. I had routine labs done
on 1/31/2000 and was found to have an ALK PHOS of 174 (normal 20-125). I
had a daughter on August 23, 1999 and I am breastfeeding. I have had many
repeat tests including tests for liver function etc. All have come back
normal including a liver scan with the exception of the ALK PHOS which is
lower (app 152) but not normal. The next step would be to have a bone scan,
which includes injection of Radio nuclear technicium 99 m and MDP. I am
hoping to avoid this because of nursing. My question to you is does anyone
have any knowledge of ALK PHOS levels being high post partum while nursing.
Or, has anyone had blood work done and had normal ALK PHOS while nursing?

Thanks,

Kay Kissinger
