Help I saw a four month old on Saturday. I know what the problem is but don't how to fix it. I am so used to working with "flexible newborns." This baby is not allowing the suggestions I gave the mother and therefore they not working. I need a Lactation consultant or an OT who is experienced in working with older babies. The problem is that the baby is pushing the tongue forward and using the jaw and gums to hold on. She also has some problems coordinating her suck swallow as she is overcome by the let down at times. Mom's nipples are very sore. She saw several lactation consultants when the baby was small but they where not helpful. One told her that with some babies it always hurts no matter what you do. We live in the Central Valley about 3 hours from the Bay Area and 4 hours from Los Angeles. Mom is desperate. I can provide more info if you want. Please email me if you can help or know of someone who can. Thank you.
