>Human babies can make fat out of carbohydrate and water, so if they >consume more calories than they need for growth and energy use, they >could put on any needed insulation. Adult people in cold climates do not have more fat on their bodies than people in hot climates. They do not need fat for insulation, because they have culture, in the form of clothing, housing, fire/heaters, and physical activity. In traditional times, inside an igloo, the ice-block winter houses of Arctic native populations, it was often 70-80 degrees, and people took their clothes off in the hallway leading to the main room. The fur clothing also had lots of different "vents" build in that could be opened to dissipate excess heat during physical activity.
