From my husband, a Ph.d/MIT chemist:

To make 0.9% saline (weight/weight percent)

.9 g NaCl / 100 g water = 1.5 g / 166 ml

1/4 teaspoon of salt (i.e. 1.5 g) dissolved in 166 ml of water.

**************** APPROXIMATELY :****************

1/4 teaspoon salt in 2/3 cup water

or

3/4 teaspoon salt in 2 cups water.

or

a heaping 1/4 teaspoon in 1 cup water.
