Dear Deanne,I think the original intent of your post was to admonish fellow lactation professionals for unfairly bashing MDs with regards to their lactation r/t decisions. I do think it is fair to say that a couple of recent postings have taken what could have been out of context comments and "ran with them" so to speak. I think that may of us just skip over this type of ranting. However, some of your comments on home birthing were inflammatory and didn't help to defend your postition. While many of us, anecdotally, have very different experiences, the research reveals very different data than that you implied. While personally i chose to deliver my 3 children at free standing birth centers(2), hospital(1) and have my reasons for doing so, I could not with the medical facts in mind, make the statement that choosing a home birth "is playing Russian roulette".The "risks" involved with a hospital delivery are there as well and those of us that have worked in hospitals know of the "intervention spiral"etc. Many of these mothers who choose home birth have had "the hospital birth from hell" and we've all heard the stories. We need to respect their decision and realize it comes from a different place than yours.
