Insulin needs do drop and food needs rise. She is probably simply not
eating enough calories. I would hazard a guess that she needs to begin to
lower the insulin and increase her food and monitor her blood sugar closely
until she hits the right balance. There is some delay with lactogenesis
mentioned in bf texts but they say a few days and this mom is past that.
This whole juggling act goes into reverse when baby is weaning. See Lauwers
& Shinskie "Counseling the Nursing Mother,; Riordan & Auerbach, BF & Human
Lactation; Morhbacher & Stock, BF Answer Book. LLLI also has a whole
pamphlet for the Diabetic Mother & BF, #17a, Dec. 1999. Sincerely, Pat in
SNJ
P.S. Check archives, I'm pretty sure diabetes has been discussed in past
year.
