Gee, this is the second "move" I've made from GA to elsewhere in the country in
the last 9 months. Thankfully there are no boxes to unpack....

I tried to send this message the other day and it wouldn't go. The discussion is
over but maybe not forgotten! Melissa

RE: Copy of: Oversupply

Hi, all. I just got off the phone with my best buddy from GA, Ann Calandro (LLL
and IBCLC), who moved to the Charlotte NC area the same time I moved here to TN.
I have talked her into joining CompuServe and just told her about Lactnet.
Hopefully she will be joining us soon!

Anyway, I told her about the latest discussion initiated by Sarah on the mom
with the oversupply problem. Ann had recently been to a meeting of the Mid South
LC association that this was the major topic of discussion. Some ideas that came
from that meeting:

From Mary Rose Tully: A 4+ day plan she has had success with--
Day 1, Mom nurses ONLY from one breast all day long. After baby has as much as
he wants, she pumps that breast to remove the "remaining" milk. She also pumps
the other (unnursed) side after every feeding for 20 minutes.
Day 2: Mom nurses ONLY from the other breast all day long and pumps that breast
after feedings and pumps the unnursed side. (The reverse of the first day, in
other words)
Day 3: Mom nurses 1st side but does not pump that side after feeding. She
continues to pump the unnursed side as before.
Day 4: Mom nurses 2nd side only, and only pumps 1/2 of the other side.
According to MRT, there is no need to do anything special after day 4. Anybody
heard of anything like this, or tried it?

Other suggestions raised at that meeting (specific source unknown) to reduce the
supply:
Drink 4 cups of sage tea a day.

Take Sudafed once in the am, once at night. (Ann expresses concern over the
"prescribing" aspect of this suggestion.)

Also, someone suggested taking Vitamin B6 and thought there was a reference to
that in Riordan and Auerbach?

Hope this helps!

Melissa
