Dear Friends,

How do we accomplish this (teaching bedsharing) in a hospital setting that
regulates what we can and cannot teach our patients? We are held under such
scrutiny by our superiors to the deeds and words that may put them in
financial risk if the unthinkable were to happen, lest they(the hospital) be
sued. So, Nikki Lee wrote:

When the mother can sleep with the baby, the problem
disappears.......everybody sleeps. No more exhaustion. At least teach the
mother to lie down to
breastfeed in a safe bedsharing environment so she can rest. Maternal and
parental exhaustion won't be such an issue if we teach the benefits of
bedsharing and the necessity for a safe bedsharing environment.

Where do we draw the line between thinking about liability's bottom line and
teaching what we know is right? Just food for thought.

Warmly,
Veronica Tingzon, IBCLC

Mom of 2 beautiful boys!
