When one of my League moms was doing her surgery residency, she asked for a
break from OR table. Head dr said sarcastically, can't you wait to go pee
any longer? (Like it was a crime to have to go during a long surgery and
drs have to train themselves after all), she replied oh, I don't need to go
to the bathroom, I need to express some milk before it drips all over the
operating table! Shut him right up! She was a teen, working on our farm,
when I was nursing my last baby. When she got pg she showed right up at my
meetings. She nursed first thru last yr of med school and next 2 during
her FP residency. And yes, I agree, the only way we will eventually get
changes is to keep training the new ones right! I hope LLLL and IBCLC's
are raising some too!
Another funny story, at a LLL mtg. we were discussing positioning. I
showed the moms how to hold tummy-to-tummy, good alignment, arm tucked
under, etc. This med student went home that night and had baby by 6 am
next day! She said they brought baby in, dumped him in her lap and said
you can nurse him now and left :-( She sat there with baby laying in her
lap "looking at the ceiling" and thought "oh now what", then she remembered
the meeting the night before, picked him up, put him "in the position", he
latched right on and she never looked back.

We just never know when or where all the tidbits will eventually land, do
we? Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
