Hi Magda,

Far be it from me to speak for all Christians, but the majority of
churches in the UK support breastfeeding as "God's way of feeding
babies" and many are members of Baby Milk Action, the organisation
campaigning against Ne$tles et al.

I think all Christians would be against prejudice and denying access to
religeous worship for certain subgroups - in this case, the group that
are prevented from enjoying religeous worship are nursing mothers. The
Church also tends to regard motherhood as a spiritual calling, and this
policy effectively victimises mothers and instead of helping them to be
better mothers, puts a wedge between them and their babies. The Bible
admonishes us to love our children and to care for them as best we can -
denying a baby it's primary foodsource is hardly in that spirit.

I can't quote chapter and verse, because it isn't there (and besides, I
am not a theologian), but I believe the view that breastfeeding should
be supported and encouraged is entirely Biblical. I have written a
letter to Spring Harvest, and in it I point out the fact that the Virgin
Mary would probably not have been able to attend the meetings :-^
