I went into the city centre (Hobart, Australia) today with a mother
and her baby to take photos of breastfeeding in public in various
situations. This is for our attitude survey.

We found an office where she could sit at a computer, a food hall,
but then we needed an open-air bench and a crowd. I had forgotten
that the USS Carl Vinson is in port and there are 5000 US servicemen
in town this week. That sure creates a crowd in Hobart, particularly
when you add 5000 females looking for a diversion.

I was in the ridiculous situation of approaching groups of young
American males and explaining that we were taking photos of
breastfeeding in public and would they mind just continuing to do
what they were doing, such as eating hamburgers. They were 100%
cooperative! Maybe we educated them too. All over we got a
wonderful response, including from some elderly men I approached.

I wish I could say that the baby was 100% cooperative. He found the
visitors much more interesting that his mothers breast. He can see
that any day. The mother was fantastic though! Not at all daunted.
