Welcome to Australia. Our federal treasurer, Mr Costello, has asked us all
to 'have one for mum, one for dad and one for the country'! But has he
provided us with paid mat leave? Ah no. Has he enshrined the right of
parents to unpaid leave on the birth of a child? Ah no. Does he spend a
decent amount of money on breastfeeding promotion or support? Ah no. Does
his government regulate the advertising of infant feeding paraphernalia? Ah
no. Does his government help me to save for my retirement while I am
raising the 'one for the country' (or supprt my efforts to return to paid
work after years of child raising)? Ah no.
I'd be happy to have 'one for the country' if the contry was committed to
supporting me in my efforts to raise her ...
