It's important to know your country's laws when it comes to prescribing
herbals. In Israel, vitamins, homeopathy and herbs are considered
"tosefot mazon" which roughly translated means "food supplements." It
clearly states this on every bottle. Since vitamins and herbals aren't
"medicine", anyone can legally buy or prescribe them. I don't think
consumers realize that "natural" products can be harmful when not taken
properly. Having studied homeopathy, I will recommend a remedy related
to lactation only. I'll refer a mother to a certified herbalist,
pharmacist or other practioner for other treatments. I usually advise
people to stay away from health food stores or chain vitamin shops where
poorly trained sales people will sell them the moon.
