I wonder if that "tiny little spot" on the nipple isn't, indeed, the cause
of the problem ... that this mom has a recurring nipple bleb that prevents
milk from flowing out of her breast, and the stasis is giving mom these
bouts of mastitis.  Yes, Lecithin would definititely be something I'd
recommend -- but search the Lactnet Archives (Feb 2010) for a post I wrote
that was, in its entirety, a *wonderful* regimen Dess Kassing IBCLC has
developed for moms suffering from recurrent blebs.  If your mom has a
recurrent bleb ... and she can deal with *that* ... she may find the
cascading effects "up stream" are diminished.
