I spent some time tonight browsing the Nestle Aust website and came up with
some disturbing sponsorship programs. What started me looking was an ad in
DET NSWs magazine for an Aust Institute of Sport, Nestle sponsored nutrition
units for use in schools. Looking at the AIS website I inadvertantly ended
up at the Nestle website. Anyway, here are some quotes about what they are
doing. It makes me feel slightly ill. Don't they realise why Nestle are
doing this or how insidious it is?

"To bring to life its commitment to providing Australians with good food for
good living, Nestlé became partner sponsor of the Australian Institute of
Sport (AIS). As well as funding the Institute and its athletes, Nestlé also
saw an opportunity to bring the AIS's 20 years of nutrition and fitness
experience to the lives of all Australians."

"A special program for premature babies, "The Newborn Individualised
Developmental Care and Assessment Program" or NIDCAP, has been implemented
at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, Sydney, with strong funding support
from Nestlé. "

"Nestlé is a principal sponsor of Giant Steps Sydney, a centre for
excellence for children with autism. The centre provides a holistic program
incorporating individual educational programs, occupational, music and
speech therapies as well as instruction in daily living skills to ensure
children with autism are given every opportunity to reach their full
potential. "

"In keeping with our long-term commitment to the health and well-being of
people of Australia, NESTLÉ is proud to present "I'd like to Know" and "A
Peak inside our Nest", two school project websites. The websites have been
designed to provide children of lower and upper primary school with
education activities and a fun learning experiences which will assist in
teaching the benefits and importance of correct nutrition for proper growth
and development."
