Hi. I am both an IBCLC and LLL Leader. I lead meetings and still do LC work
for pay. I tell folks that I volunteer my time with LLL , much as others
donate time to little league, libraries, and classrooms.  My work is IBCLC,
and for that, for the hands on , hard core, nuts and bolts, work I get paid.

I have never been treated with anything other than the utmost respect by my
colleagues, both LC and LLL alike. We work together...and I have never felt
that people are jealous, or upset with me at all. They like the fact that I
can find stuff out, and I help as much as possible.

I wear many hats. I don't think I should have to take one off if I like it.
LLL gave me the start...it continues to feed my soul. IBCLC is great
too..and pays for my kids music lessons. As a LLL Leader, I do not tout my
services as an LC. I do not get paid by anyone I know from LLL, and I do not
refer to myself.

In our area, there are only a few IBCLCs ....and most are LLL Leaders. I
find that LLL/LCs are different than some other health care professionals
who assist bf mothers. LLL Leaders have a belief in 10 basic
concepts...which I also believe. This gives us common ground...probably
explains why I feel close to many other IBCLCS/LLL Leaders. I also have many
friends who are RN IBCLCs, or RD IBCLCs..etc..and these friends also have
wonderful qualities to share.
