From a colleague... I will pass on responses.. "

"I had the experience recently of trying to assist a new mother (first few
days) who had already damaged her nipples to the point where they are open,
cracked, bleeding, and exquisitely painful. One of the doctors on the floor
insisted that there was no infection that early, and that there was no
reason to write a prescription for APNO, since it was too early for
infection to form. I cited a few articles, including the one by Livingstone,
and another earlier one... But she did not seem to think there was a chance
that this mother had an infection, so why write for an expensive compounded
ointment.

I was very frustrated, and asked her if she had any other suggestions, since
the mother was on Medicaid, and was not able to privately hire an LC, etc..
And her answer was that I was the LC, it was my problem, no she had no other
solution, but that I was barking up the wrong tree if I thought throwing
APNO at it would help.

I've seen it help so many times that I was speechless."

Thoughts. I will send to my friend if you Email me privately. Kathleen
