Hi Rachel,

I must agree that the deadline seemed very close to me, too.
I don't know, what other information she has collected already; maybe this
is the final touch, but then again... you never know what people come up
with and whether that will influence the outcomes of your study.
This is the link to her website, where you can read more:
http://www.asklenore.com/aboutus/lenoregoldfarb.html.
Maybe you can tell her about your concerns described below, Rachel...?
I don't feel qualified to question the set-up, but am interested in learning
about it.
By the way... I liked your description of the grandchildren and so on; I
doubt, though, that it is the regular system througout the world. If it
were, I would not have to put so much time into countering research that has
lead to this ridiculous Dutch guideline on dealing with excessively crying
babies. The design is poor, the operationalisations are in no way according
to the principles of objectivity and measurability, the conclusions and
recommendations are *not* built on the research and what was studied as an
intervention is without any fundation being implemented as prevention: very
unscientific.
The lady got her promotion nevertheless, though; very sad, indeed... :-(

Warmly,

Marianne Vanderveen, Netherlands

Subject: [LACTNET] ongoing research on induced lactation

Maybe I am really dense, but I am baffled that someone could be in the
'final stages of completing' their doctorate at the same time they are just
sending out e-mails to their acquaintances to recruit women for an internet
based survey which is part of their doctoral research. Recruiting
participants by way of e-mail contacts in the breastfeeding cybercommunity
presents a paritcular set of sources of bias for the research and I am
curious about how these problems will be dealt with in the survey now
underway.
