>A mother of a 12 month old developed hypoglycemia about three months ago
and she has been having increasing feelings of weakness during nursing.
Today she felt so ill she went to the hospital. MD told her she must wean
the child cold turkey!

Hmmmm....

I developed hypoglycemia while I was tandem nursing. I felt ravenously
hungry and would grab a spoonful of honey for *quick energy* - after all, I
just didn't have time to make proper meals between tending to the new baby
and the 22 month old, both of whom spent a long time at the breast, and not
always together. I found myself feeling lightheaded, and actually passed out
a number of times, before a friend dragged me to the doctor. The doc was
convinced that I had epilepsy, despite test results to the contrary, and
wanted me to take dilantin *just in case*......and of course this would mean
weaning....

By chance, I happened to turn on a radio station that was broadcasting a
talk on nutrition, and the subject was hypoglycemia. The symptoms mentioned
sounded awfully like mine. I decided to see if the recommended dietary
changes would make any difference to me. As a result, by eating frequent
small meals high in protein and low in simple carbohydrates, I was able to
eliminate the symptoms, and I felt 100% better. Hope this helps!
