Nina posts about a new 'award' sponsored by Medela to be given to people working for breastfeeding, during World Breastfeeding Week.

Unless Medela change their marketing practices for feeding bottles and teats, it will put any IBCLC recipient of this PR-stunt award in an awkward position, as they will not be able to accept it without violating the Code of Ethics for the profession. If it is awarded to someone who isn't an IBCLC it will be up to that person's own ethical code whether they accept an award from a company who have knowingly and willfully chosen to disregard the WHO Code.

Of course it could also be a prime opportunity to bring attention to why you would not be able to accept such an 'honor', but I have no doubt Medela are savvy enough to make sure that whoever is to be singled out for this ethical kiss of death will not be the type to get uppity during an awards ceremony.

The upside of this is it shows that Medela are concerned about their reputation among people who know what they are up to. I would rather see something substantive, like a change in their marketing policy for bottles and teats.
