Well, I guess it is my turn to talk about rashes! a few months ago I was
sending in my question on this to the collective wisdom of Lacnet (thanks!).
My son had an ugly, raw, weeping rash all over his cheeks and chin and some
on his hands as well. We ended up going to a Naturopathic doctor who used
an Electro-acupuncture-type machine to test him for food sensitivities.
(anyone know the real name for it?) It didn't involve needles, just a metal
probe that he put in back of his diaper (to hold it there-if testing an
adult they would just hold in their hand), then he used another probe about
the size of a pen and touched a point on one of his big toes. Then he went
about testing him for alot of foods from sugar, grains, dairy, meats,
fruits, salt, etc. He tested sensetive to alot of stuff and I went home on
a new diet! It was not easy, but we kept that diet (not absolutely
perfectly, but close!) for 6 weeks, not much improved, then we kept it again
for another 6 weeks and he improved alot! We also gave him some homeopathic
drops, a vitamin C-type of supplement, and an acidophilus supplement. He is
18 months old now- still nursing, and we have not been on the strict diet
for a long time, or the supplements (mostly the 12 weeks only, then
gradually added things back in) Now we know that the biggest culprit for
him is wheat. He occasionally has some wheat, but not in large quanities,
and not everyday. When we go out to eat and there is nothing else but
something with a little wheat- he may get some- that is called my "sanity
wheat"! If he gets more wheat than his system can handle, he will get
ruddy-looking cheeks and sometimes it will be rougher feeling. I get
comments frequently on how much better his face looks- like today at the
bank and the other day at the post office- it is amazing they remember!
