Answering two emails here in one note....

It is my understanding, from reading Lactnet for so long, that Goat's
milk is too high in solute load for infants...and is not appropriate for
use as a base for infant milk. I have a note on this from years back,
from a dietician who used a solute load comparison to make this
assessment...I wonder if I still have this somewhere.

Also, to June, the new IBCLC, welcome. It is always best to start at the
"very beginning" as Julie Andrews used to sing in "The Sound of
Music..."...and that is with the latch. I would use the latch
information /description in Jack Newman MD's page at
www.breastfeedingonline.com (Cindy's wonderful pages)..to begin to
assess that latch. Fixing the latch is always the first step in fixing
any breastfeeding issue, in my opinion.

May be this description, with line drawing, will help you.

It is what I use.

Kindly, Kathleen
