As an infant who was fed cow's milk , because I refused formula, and sleeping
8 hours through the night at 2 weeks in my own crib in my own room , I can
say that co-sleeping does have an effect on emotional health later on; IMHO.
Neither one of my parents were very affectionate and I did not dare disturb
them in their room, this I knew at an early age. I yearn for physical
affection and my ex-boyfriend used to tell me he felt like a monkey in a tree
when we slept together because he would wake in the morning and I would be
wrapped around him. It is as if I am making up for a lost experience. I think
touch is the most intimate and comforting gesture there is, besides kissing.
Witholding it from your child and yourself is a sad example of how I think
our global culture is losing touch with our instincts. Living has become a
struggle against nature rather than an acceptance and embracing of it. I was
driving by road workers the other day on a very hot Santa Anna day here in
CA. I was thinking that in a culture where instincts, harmony and
authenticity were valued, wouldn't this be postponed a few days until the
Santa Anna passes? How urgent is it that that road be done THIS VERY
MINUTE...???? Lisa Mooney, Anxiously awaiting the birth of my children so I
can monkey in a tree them with love....
