I agree with Susan. I think that we IBCLCs however need to make sure
that we have a firm grasp of what normal breastfeeding looks like,
before attempting to intervene or give advice to mothers. This is
obviously easier said than done in our bottle-feeding culture. I am
so glad I had the opportunity to be part of an LLL group, and this is
why I hope to never stop leading and attending LLL meetings. This is
the perfect place, short of a Lactopian society, to observe and learn
from a community of breastfeeding mothers and babies. Otherwise we
can get too caught up in pathological situations and stop trusting
that breastfeeding can work out if mother and baby stay close and
keep trying.
Warmly,

----

"Bitter are the tears of a child: Sweeten them.
Deep are the thoughts of a child: Quiet them.
Sharp is the grief of a child: Take it from him.
Soft is the heart of a child: Do not harden it." - Pamela Glenconner
