What do you think? A major hospital here in the Boston area is posting
advertisements for Lactation Consultant positions. It is required that
applicants be RN and have at least 3 years of OB experience. I'm afraid I
ranted at the RNLC who told me this...I feel it seriously weakens the LC
credential to tie it to RN. My contact tells me the hospital feels that RN is
necessary since "the LC will have autonomy in working with newborns,
and needs the medical training to deal with potential emergencies that
comes with the RN."

I know this has been discussed previously, but this is a topic I think we
need to explore frequently. Our credential, our credibility as
professionals, is on the line every time an employer posts these
requirements.
