Hi Martha!

I just happen to have in my hands, three very popular brands of hydrogel
dressing. The ones which are circular and meant to be used by nursing mothers.

Quoted from their supporting literature:

Kendall ... Materni Mates a unique formulation of: Water, Polyurethane
and Glycols.... "safe for both mother and infant".

Sherwood Davis & Geck ... Dermacea: Sterile polyurethane based
hydrophilic hydrogels.

Maturna ... Soothies: Cloth backing, 65% Glycerin 17.5% Water and 17.5%
Polyacrylamide... "Non-toxic to baby, No latex"

ALL recommend rinsing the nipple area with warm water and patting dry before
nursing. "This will help provide a clean nursing environment for the infant"
is the only reason given, and it is given in the Kendall literature. The
Maturna literature goes on to list several other things their product does
NOT have.....

Maybe this will help.
