Hello again,
I have another drug question. I know that for full term healthy newborns
there has been more acceptance of mom being on Flagyl and continuing to
breastfeed. We now have a mother of twins that were born preterm last week
and weigh about 1 1/2 # each. She is pumping her breasts and her milk is
in. The babies are not getting mother's milk yet and she was told to pump
and dump her milk while on the Flagyl. She is fine with this since the
neonatologist advised it. My suggestion to her was that rather than dump
this milk she could label it and freeze it at home and have it stored for
some point in the future when she has her (hopefully) bigger and healthy
babies at home. She will be on it 5 more days.
I guess my questions are whether Flagyl is really OK for a mom pumping for a
healthy full term baby and whether it would be more problematic for these
tiny babies once they are being fed. They were born mid last week.
Thanks for any suggestions &/or ideas.
