Hi all,

Coming out of lurk-dom for a moment, because this post on 'inappropriate Dr.
comments' caught my eye. While I do not disagree that this doctor may have
been making remarks in such a manner as to be offensive... the remarks
themselves where not entirely wrong. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted
the initial posting, so I can not quote directly what was said but -- Men
CAN in certain circumstances breastfeed babies. And I'm NOT talking about
men with tumors or on medications. The basic breast anatomy does exist in
males, and with stimulation (in some cases baby or pumping alone) some can
bring in a milk supply. It's VERY loooong story, but I actually assisted a
man in my private practice!
As far as 'babies being able to breastfeed'... obviously this is not
something that warrants long discussion, but we do know of cases of babies
producing drops of milk from their nipples in the early days after birth as
a result of the hormone-shift post birth (used to be called 'witches milk').

Again, the doctor may well have been making comments that were not helpful,
but I wouldn't be too quick to say it shows a lack of knowledge.

Respectfully,
Jeanne
