I suffer from complicated migraine myself, and although I have not
experienced this problem myself, I have seen it in other migraine sufferers
during early lactation.

There is indeed some evidence that migraine (and many neurologists are
expanding the definition of migraine beyond the "Classic" variety)in a few
women can be aggravated by MER. Some of these mothers take their pain meds
a short while before they expect to nurse and it can cut the intensity of
the pain and even sometimes it's apperance altogether. Anything which works
for the mother, from Motrin, to triptans to narcotics (in severe cases,) to
fiorinal can be used, if under the care of a physician. (of course her
individual meds and dosage depend on her response and drugs like narcotics
probably should not be used daily for any more than a short while.)

I have seen that most of these mothers tend to see a lessening of these
types of headaches as her body acclimates to the MER. Most have reduction
if not cessation of symptoms in a few weeks.
