Hello! Over the years I have seen many mothers who have pink, sore
nipples and complain about shooting pains into the breast. They do
not all have yeast. Unless the babies had visible thrush, I referred
many, many mothers to a local dermatologist and she diagnosed any
number of conditions like eczema, dermatitis, etc. In 1992, she and
I had twenty cases of pink, chronic sore nipples that we documented
and had published in JHL in '93.

Yes, Dr. Hale did not culture out yeast in breast milk. Although I
do not believe that yeast gets into the breast, what concerns me is
that of all the mother that were studied, none of the babies had oral
thrush according to Dr. Hale.

Star asks about babies suddenly refusing to feed unless nursed in the
lying down position. This rung a bell with me as Kate, my first born
did the same thing at around three months of age. Being a bit on the
hyperactive side, I had started walking about when I got bored
sitting on the couch nursing. It seemed like Kate rebelled. Within
a few days of staying put, she settled down and nursed fine back in
my arms on the couch.
