Fellow Lactnuts,
In the spirit of keeping up with what the various companies are
sending the moms in my classes and my clients, I called a M-J number and
asked a question and was put on their mailing list.
YIKES! These guys are *good* at making themselves look good.
Here's what recently appeared in my mailbox: (and I quote,
unfortunately):
"Introducing New, Advanced Formula E----l. No other formula
comes closer to breast milk." (on one side of the page, with color
picutures of the product) On other side of page, GIANT letters:
"NO OTHER FORMULA COMES CLOSER TO BREAST MILK" ( regular sized
text from here on out)
"Now you can give your baby a formula that's more like breast
milk than ever before. It's new, advanced formula E---l.
We've always carefully patterned E----l's protein mix and fat
blend directly after breast milk. But now there's something more.
*Nucleotides*--the building blocks of RNA and DNA--have been added at the
same levels that are found naturally in breast milk.
Thanks to this development, your baby will receive even more
nutrients for growith and development during this first important year.
Our new formula has the same easy-to-digest quality that's helped
make E---l the most widely-used formula in America. And best of all,
we're bringing you new, advanced formula E---l at no extra cost.
Be sure to look for advanced formula E----l the next time you're
at the store. No other formula comes closer to breast milk or provides
more nutrition for your baby!"

Me again--I liked being ignorant better but this way I can bring out some
of the fallacies in my bf class. (What about babies fed the old stuff?
How do they *know* what levels are in bm naturally--it changes compostion
as the day goes on! They pattern it after what we know about bm--which
isn't much! Do they realize they're admitting their old formula wasn't
so good? No *extra* cost? What about the profit they're already making?
And what about the cost to the baby in health losses?) To add insult to
injury, there is a bottle screened behind the text......

Oopsl--I'm preaching to the choir again, sorry. This just makes my blood
boil!
