Hi Paula
There are some important measurement considerations to take into account when developing a survey about breastfeeding practice. Are you going to measure any breastfeeding? Or Exclusive Breastfeeding? Exclusive breastfeeding from birth? Or current status exclusive breastfeeding? Then there's the proposition problem. Many studies report exclusive breastfeeding AT six months but the recommendation is for exclusive breastfeeding TO six months ... so we would expect infants to have terminated exclusive breastfeeding AT six months. There is a survey out the UK that used a really tight instrument and methodology. Download it here.

Can I also IMPLORE you to submit your results for publication in a peer reviewed journal, such as JHL or Breastfeeding Review or International Breastfeeding Journal ... even if it is only a small study of a small area ... it helps to add to the body of knowledge and to inform future survey development.
