Hi Winnie,  I am assuming that what you meant but forgot to mention is that
FIRST you have the Mom nurse the baby. BEFORE the baby is offered ABM, we
need to know whether the issue that caused the significant wt. loss is still
an issue. This can only be done by observing/assisting the baby at the breast.

I am so glad to have the oppurtunity to discuss this because I have seen so
many HCPs, even LCs who when faced with a large wt. loss immediately respond
with either pumping and bottle fdng the EBM or bottling with ABM . If you
can, with some assistance, help the baby transfer eg. 2 oz. from the breast,
why the need for any additional intervention that isn't going to help the
breastfeeding and may undermine it by focusing on the negative?
