Jennifer, this is a faulty dilemma. Teach them about the risks of all
medications AND teach them non-pharmaceutical pain relief. If there's "no
time" in the course, then get rid of something else. The main purpose for
birth preparation classes, IMHO, is to prepare for a very intense but short
event that will profoundly affect the rest of their lives.

BTW, I taught birth preparation classes for 20 years, including a stint at a
hospital in Texas when I taught 11 classes per week (double classes M-TH and
three classes on Saturday), each with 12 couples. Very tight schedule. Still
found time for non-pharmaceutical pain relief techniques.
