I am nurse practitioner in a busy pediatrician's office. I recently
started a Lactation Consultant service for the bf moms. It is hugely
sucessful. However, I am exhausted. I work full-time all day seeing sick
and well children. In between, I run to the phone and return bf phone
calls. I squeeze in lactation consults wherever I can. I would be
interested in hearing from other PNP's who are juggling these two jobs. Is
there a more efficient way to do this? As an aside - when I asked the
doctor if I could attend a Lactation Educator course, he said" Why waste
your money?" I persisted, and now he says "that is the best thing you've
done"...he always reminds potential expecting parents that the practice has
their own Lactation Educator! (soon to be properly certified) And yes, to
join the fray, you must be certified in your field. It is the only way to
demonstrate that you have achieved excellence...your credibility is also
elevated ten-fold. I am a certified PNP with no regrets. Please e-mail me
with thoughts on "wearing two hats" in the office. Thanks!
