I'm an IBCLC working at a hospital lactation service. I received a phone
call yesterday from a mom who at 4 days post-partum reports her breast milk
from her right breast smells like sweat. A brief history of mother includes
a benign cyst removal in her right axilla which her doctor told her included
over active sweat glands, done back in 1996. She reports no lumps or
problems since that time. She had her first baby shortly thereafter but
didn't breastfeed. This second baby did nurse briefly in the hospital on
the right side but showed a preference for the left. Mom reports that once
home baby refuses to nurse on the "affected side", reporting even his mouth
smells like sweat. She did start pumping on that side to maintain her milk
supply while her infant continues to nurse happily on the left. Has anyone
ever had any experience with this? If so I would sure appreciate the help.
She will be in contact with her physician as well. Many thanks.

Duluth, MN
