One of my clients asked me the following: Her toddler is being tested
for celiac disease, and part of the test involves checking IgA
levels. The results came back showing that the levels are on the low end
of normal.

This mom is still breastfeeding, and wonders if this might be effecting
her 20-month old's IgA study, thus throwing off the test result. I know
that around 6 months of age infants begin to make their own IgA, but was
not sure if these levels continue to be influenced by mother's milk.
This toddler receives 25-50% of her nutrition at breast.

Thanks for anything you might know about this,
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
