new story - mother lives up in mountains, has some contractions, comes down
to hospital - ten days before due date. well, "since you're here already"
they don't just tell her to go home when her labor seems to stop, they break
her water (no turning back, now) etc. until she delivers the baby.

then she doesn't attempt to breastfeed because NONE of the staff could help,
and no LC was on duty (it was night, gosh!). she eventually sort of got the
baby to latch on. but after the delivery, before "they" gave up, they put
formula on her nipples to try to get the baby to latch on.

frankly, this makes me so furious. what does this mean when someone puts
FORMULA for god's sake on the nipples to try to "attract" a newborn baby? it
means that WE BELIEVE IN FORMULA. it means that we believe it is not only
safe and healthy but that it is even better than the thing it is supposed to
be a substitute for.

this baby has a mother with dairy intolerance problems, and is already
showing clear signs of food sensitivity. i had to explain to this mom who had
planned to breastfeed for "maybe three months" that she should not try giving
her child various potentially allergy-provoking substances, especially
formula, since it had already been given to him. she's intelligent, she knows
she got cheated and lied to. why?

baby is nursing fairly well and has the unusual tight, thick upper frenulum
but no apparent problems with the lower.

jan, move over and share the sand.
