Thank you so much to all who have responded on Lactnet and privately to my
(perhaps provocative?) thoughts on thumbsucking and security objects. There
has been a wide range of personal experiences and opinions expressed, on why
and when thumbsucking starts (sometimes associated with medical conditions),
when it ends and whether it happens in close proximity to various
people/objects and whether it is perceived as a problem, or not. Those
responding consistently reported personal experiences and personal feelings
- thumbsucking is obviously an emotional issue, like mothering, and
breastfeeding. My apologies to all whose buttons I appear to have
inadvertently pressed! I had perhaps forgotten that we are (nearly) all
*firstly* mothers on Lactnet and *then* people who are dedicated to helping
*other* mothers to breastfeed. Thank you once again for your eloquent
responses.
