Dear LACTNET members,
Thank you so much for your quick responses. What remarkable people you are!
I neglected to say (bacause I thought my post was already too long) that a
hospital grade pump was aquired and the mother, after some initial
difficulties, is pumping.
I practically went down on my knees and begged them to go to a IBLC
lactation consultant (I am exaggerating a little here) and instead they went
to a local Mother Baby care nurse who has a reputaion as a good
breastfeeding counselor. She looked in the mouth and did not see tounge tie,
but I'm concerned that she doesn't have the training necessary to diagnose a
case that isn't obvious, just like me. She sat with them and the baby
latched, with nipple shields, after two hours of trying. The mother felt
he'd had a good feed.
The baby ate at 2:00 pm. I spoke to the grandmother at five and they were
still sleeping. She said she would call me after the next feed; I'm waiting.
We'll see what happens.
I found the post about the nipple sheilds but I have a gut feeling that this
is a stop-gap for this particular case and not a solution. I hope I'm wrong.
This particular family finds alternative madicine, what shall we say,
off-putting. I would have dearly loved  to see the cranial sacral etc tried;
I know people who have had excellent results with this kind of therapy.
Once again, I can't thank all of you enough for your input, advice, and
links. Anymore feedback will be truly and duly appreciated.
I have two e-mails, one from Norma Ritter and one from Ellen Penchuck, which
refer to my problem. I hope they will forgive me, if they have indeed sent
these e-mails, that I don't open them until I have some way of assesing if
they are really from the sender and not from some internet fiend. I am
leery of e-mail problems. I have read Norma Ritter's post, thank you.

All the best,
Yael Edelstein
Israel
