Pat's comments make sense, so now I am really confused about this.   Maybe I
am wrong, but it still seems to me that if the mother does not have a rapid
and strong MER, the baby would get milk from the SNS first.   If the baby is
offered supplement in the SNS,  not given  a chance to first  empty the
breast without it, the breast would not  get enough stimulation to increase
the milk supply.

I was under the impression that using the SNS from the beginning of the feed
would be useful in cases where supplementation was necessary for a long
period of time, but using it this way for short term supplementation could
actually interfere with building a milk supply.  In any case, I have had
success with it's short term use, in the way that I described in my previous
post (confirmed by Jack).
