Everyone please remember. Colostrum is a product of PREGNANCY! It is NOT
produced when the placenta is no longer there (i.e., when the mother is not
pregnant).

Colostrum is EARLY milk, not PRE-milk. It has identifiable differences
from mature milk. Those differences are less noticeable during the
transition from colostrum to mature milk (we call that TRANSITIONAL milk),
but there are differences.

When women start making milk in the absence of a pregnancy, they do not go
through a colostral phase, although their early milk may look different
from mature milk. Usually, they produce what appears to ba a lymph fluid
(usually clear) before milky fluid appears.

It matters not whether mother is still breastfeeding an older child. If
she has not had a pregnancy in advance of putting the NEW baby to breast
(adoptive, that is) she will NOT make colostrum.

Hoping this clear up the confusion.....
